Lessons from Vincent – Pittsburgh Lifestyle Photographer

My favorite subject in school was art. (I also liked going on field trips to downtown Pittsburgh.) But the most exciting days were the days I got to create something unique. I also loved learning about famous artists. Vincent Van Gogh has been a favorite of mine since elementary school. It was so sad to learn that Vincent had cut off his ear. It didn't make any sense to me, why couldn't a creative genius find peace and happiness? I have always loved Vincent's use of vivid colors, everyday subjects and his big, bold, colorful brush strokes. In my early college years I enjoyed sipping coffee in quaint bookstores while reading books filled with inspirational quotes. I'd copy my favorite quotes into my well worn black moleskin journal. Below are some of my favorite quotes from Vincent Van Gogh. Moral near the outside entrance to the Vincent Van Gogh Museum, Amersterdam…

Family Spotlight – Pittsburgh Family Photographer

A common question I am asked is, "What happens if the weather doesn't cooperate?" Well, this family definitely knows the answer - we reschedule within a week or so of the original portrait date. Unfortunately, due to poor weather conditions this spring, we had to reschedule several times! It was worth the wait, because in the end we had a beautiful sunrise portrait session in Mellon Park! The best families to work with are the ones that are up for anything and generally enjoy being around each other. This family was both! The whole family was such a blast to work with, cooperative and willing to be spontaneous. We had a really great time together, you can see behind the scenes from our session on the contact page. Plus, their baby girl is especially sweet, pretty, and has the most adorable laugh. Another thing that made this session extra special were…

I had the pleasure of meeting a super cool family that recently relocated to Pittsburgh. We enjoyed talking about everything from new baby products, camera gadgets, military life, and boxer dogs to traveling. It's truly an honor to be invited into a family's home to capture their story from the beginning, with an added bonus of meeting such lovely people.

Behind the Scenes at a Family Session in Mellon Park

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8K6OUe3bHY Preparing for your Family Photo Session Here are three things to think about when planning your family photo session. First is what type of session would you like to book. I offer two options: lifestyle and portrait. Lifestyle leans more informal, more artistic and less editing while portrait session are just as fun but a little more traditional and more involved editing. The second is location. We can meet at your home, in downtown Pittsburgh, in a beautiful park or on a simple field before sunset. The third thing to consider is what to wear. If you'd like tips on what to wear, please read "Top 10 Suggestions on What to Wear." During your Family Photo Session I consider myself a specialist in creating a friendly environment that lends itself to beautiful moments that I can capture. I feel that a lot of the time, photographers get caught up in…

Newborn Lifestyle Spotlight – Pittsburgh Lifestyle Photographer

I literally love everything about lifestyle sessions! I love meeting new families in their homes, highlighting their home decor in the background, including their pets. Every family and every home is different. It's a challenge to walk into an unknown situation and look for angles that highlight the beauty. I'm excited to feature this family on the blog. (Although I'll never fully understand why anyone would want to move out of Mt. Lebanon!! :) ) I enjoyed talking and laughing with this family throughout the session. I hope you love these photos and French bulldogs as much as I do!

Lifestyle Newborn Spotlight

I'm excited to introduce you to a wonderful family in Pittsburgh. Jimmy and Lisa welcomed Rosie into their family this spring. It was a pleasure to spend the morning with this loving and friendly family in their beautiful, historical and charming home. How did you and your spouse meet? We both went to college at Clemson and did not know each other there but had lots of mutual friends. We later met through those friends when we were living in Charlotte, North Carolina. Describe how your life has changed once you brought home your newborn baby. It’s been wonderful but exhausting! Every day we settle into our new life as a family of three a little bit more. These days, dinners are quicker and we don’t always get to eat at the same time because one of us is holding the baby. But we love our evening family time together after…
